 October 2009

Dear Parents, Family, and Friends,

Welcome back to the start of a fantastic new school year at Damon Runyon Elementary.  As you may know, the school faces some challenges in terms of fundraising during this 2009-2010 school year.  Through fundraising, the Runyon PTO has obligated $20,000 toward funding staff salaries.  To support additional education programs, the PTO needs to raise $45,000 through fundraising.  The PTO has launched a separate fundraising campaign to raise more than $100,000 (in donations and grants) to replace playground surfacing, add universally-accessible playground equipment, and offer new equipment options for all Runyon students to enjoy.

"Friends of Runyon" is a cash donation drive with 100% of the money going directly to the PTO.  Making a tax-deductible donation to Friends of Runyon is the easiest, most efficient way to support our school.  This year we have the goal to raise $10,000, and the following outlines what your contributions directly support:

-A $150 donation pays for the school's annual subscription to PTO Manager software.

-A $100 donation could:
       -Pay for a field trip for an entire class (25 students);
       -Supports half of all 5th graders' Health Class; or
       -Support the full budget for each of the following:
               I Can Read program;
              The Mother/Son event; or
              The Father/Daughter event.

-A $20 donation provides equipment for Specials teachers (art, PE, music, computers).  For example, your donation could buy exercise balls for PE and CDs for music.

How can you participate?
    -Make a tax-deductible contribution to the school.  The PTO accepts donations by either cash or check.  You can make a one-time donation, or donate monthly or as often as you would like.  You will find a pledge form included, and ANY amount is appreciated.

    -Solicit support from grandparents, relatives, out of town family, neighbors and friends that want to support your child's education but may not want to purchase other fundraising items.  You will find extra pledge forms included for these Friends of Runyon.

    -Inquire with your employer about matching charitable donations.

This year Friends of Runyon has a special incentive to acknowledge your generosity.  Beginning October 1, 2009, through April 1, 2010, for every $100 donation to the Friends of Runyon campaign, the donor shall receive a $10 gift certificate to Brickyard BBQ as a token of appreciation.  We thank Brickyard BBQ (owned by Runyon parents) for donating to this important fundraising campaign.

Please complete the attached pledge form and return it to school.  Thank you for being a Friend of Runyon and helping meet our 2009-2010 fundraising goal.  We appreciate your kindness in supporting the children of Runyon and the school community.

Sincerely,

Karen Kimes, Michelle Lucero, Amy Polich, and Erin Weaver
Your Friends of Runyon Committee
