“EDUCATION MAKES US WHAT WE ARE”
C.A. Helvetius
Welcome to Runyon Elementary School! We are proud to be part of the Littleton Public Schools District, which consists of three high schools (grades 9-12), four middle schools (grades 6-8), 15 elementary schools, over 15,000 students, and 1500 employees.
Runyon Elementary opened in the fall of 1969, and for 39 years has provided a well-rounded, comprehensive education to over 2000 families. Following the Littleton tradition of naming its elementary schools after American educators and authors, we are proud to be named for (Alfred) Damon Runyon (1884-1946), a short-story writer and humorist, legendary reporter, contemporary of Babe Ruth, and someone with deep ties to Colorado, where he both grew up and worked in his early years.
At Runyon our primary purpose is to meet the educational needs of your children. We believe that all children can learn at relatively high levels of achievement and we are committed to working collaboratively to achieve better results for all of our students. To accomplish this we are willing to examine all of our practices in light of their impact on student learning. This year we will continue to work in our Professional Learning Communities to address our four critical questions:
What do we expect students to learn?
How will we know when they have learned it?
What are we going to do if they have not learned it?
What will we do if they already know it?
As a school we promise we will focus on learning, focus on maintaining a collaborative culture, focus on results, and provide timely, relevant information to you and your children. In addition, we will create systems to ensure our students receive additional time and support if they are not learning.
As a community we also place a high value on making Runyon a warm, safe, and nurturing environment for all who work, attend, or visit here. We all look forward to our work together and I commit to working closely with you to meet the needs of your children. Please don't hesitate to call me if you have any questions or concerns.
