Littleton Public Schools extends a wholehearted thank you to the 20 incredible student poets at LPS’s 15th Annual Poetry Slam! Held Tuesday, November 11 at Options High School, the event overflowed with creativity, courage, and community as students stepped into the spotlight of a dimly lit room, sharing original spoken-word pieces that offered reflective glimpses into their inner worlds. Acknowledging the power of igniting the soul with strength when creative expression is encouraged and celebrated, the LPS Poetry Slam is an avenue to highlight the positive impact of truly feeling seen and heard.
The top three finalists received gift cards and the winner earned a trophy to honor their commitment to creativity and expression:
Caroline May (LHS) - First Place
Elise Analovitch (LHS) - Second Place
Elora Gundersen (AHS) - Third Place
“The point of this event is to give kids healthy ways to express what’s going on inside as a means to promote creativity through writing and spoken word,” explained Nate Thompson, Director of Social, Emotional and Behavioral Services. “In a world that’s so dominated by technology and digital life, this type of event gives students the opportunity to think deeply about their thoughts, feelings, and opinions and take the risk to share those live on stage.”
Thompson collaborated with the LPS Communications Team to create a special set of graphics honoring the event’s story. The poster featured slam graphics from 2011–2024 arranged as if they’d been gathered over time, nodding to a legacy built by a decade and a half of student voices. It served as both a celebration of the event’s history and a reminder of how many students have stepped to the mic over the years.
A heartfelt appreciation goes to dynamic slam host, Jovan Mays; LPS Foundation for funding the slam; and all who made the event possible.
LPS has enjoyed many years of creativity, connection, and students bravely sharing their voices and we look forward to continuing this tradition. We can’t wait for Slam 16!
