Fifth grade students from Mrs. Taylor’s class at Little Raven Elementary School had a unique opportunity to combine art, sports, and community connections as part of the Colorado Avalanche’s “Next Generation Night.”

As part of the celebration, which spotlights youth throughout the game experience, students created hand-drawn portraits of Avalanche players. These imaginative and colorful works of art replaced the official player headshots during the game at Ball Arena, adding a youthful and creative touch to the professional ice hockey atmosphere.

Students drew names to determine which player they’d be drawing. While most students didn’t attend the game in person, a few were able to see their artwork on the big screen. Portraits were shared with the team, a proud moment for the young artists!

Next Generation Night included various youth-led game-day staples, including announcing and interviewing players, offering young people a view into the professional world of sportscasting.

Little Raven’s participation is a shining example of how art education and community partnerships can elevate student experiences.
