One of the highlights of each Board of Education meeting is recognizing students who exemplify the Portrait of an LPS Graduate, LPS's vision for the knowledge, skills, and character we want every student to develop before graduation.
While Rigorous and Relevant Academic Skills provide the foundation, we know success in college, careers, and life depends on the ability to adapt, collaborate, communicate, and think critically in an ever-changing world. That’s why the Portrait emphasizes developing students who are Well-Adjusted, Thriving, and Balanced, while growing in:
Communication
Global and Cultural Awareness
Character
Critical Thinking
Problem Solving
Adaptability
Creativity
Risk-Taking
Resiliency
Collaboration
Self-Advocacy
These aren’t skills students develop in a single classroom or a single year. They are cultivated through meaningful learning experiences, relationships, and opportunities from preschool through graduation, and we are proud to recognize students of all ages who demonstrate these qualities and remind us what it means to be an LPS graduate.
At the October 22 meeting, the Board of Education recognized three exceptional students from Ford Elementary School:
Leo L.
Leah S.
Griffin H.
At Ford Elementary, the school has a strong commitment to the development of the whole child. Each of these spotlighted fourth graders has attended Ford since kindergarten or first grade, and each has shown impressive leadership in their collaboration with peers, their self-advocacy for their learning needs, and consistent creativity, risk-taking, and adaptability in their academic spaces.
In addition to these traits, Leo’s teachers describe him as someone who shows strong character through his responsibility, autonomy, and dependability. He is a natural rule follower who seeks leadership opportunities and excels at advocating for his needs.
Leah is a caring, friendly, and inclusive student who serves as a wonderful role model for her peers and demonstrates outstanding character. She is an absolute ray of sunshine whose positive attitude is appreciated by all who know her. You simply can’t have a bad day with Leah in your circle!
Griffin stands out for his resiliency and dedication as he works hard to reach his goals. He has grown confident and independent at school, showing remarkable character both as a student and as a role model for his peers and younger brother.
We are so proud of Leo, Leah, and Griffin for living out the Portrait of a Graduate!
